January 19, 2021 (Last Updated February 17, 2021)

48 Hour Books

Looking for some book writing inspiration? We are so pleased share this interview with self-published author, Bruno Baltazar! See what Bruno has to say about his writing process, what inspires him to write, and his best advice for aspiring authors.

What is the title of your book?

The Timeless Victors

Quick Summary:

Set in a small town in Pennsylvania, the story unfolds from 1968-70 with real individuals coming out of all parts of the country to guarantee their spotlight and a chance to play in the NFL. This was the Eagles minor league team and the book recounts a world that is very much like 2021. We feel confusion, we try to venture and doing things that life and conditions make us do. You will laugh, cry, feel good, and feel bad about the joys and hurdles of those who were there. Much more than just a football book; It’s a lifetime book.

They went on to win back-to-back ACFL championships, but it’s the journey that made them unique!

About the Author:

Originally from Portugal, Bruno Baltazar had played soccer before moving at age 19 to the USA. He was able to acquire a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Penn State and two minors from Arizona State. Balatzar currently resides in Houston where he teaches psychology at Royal High school.

What inspires you to write?

English is my second language and I always heard what I couldn’t do, and writing a book in English was one of them. When I first heard the story of this team I felt inspired to do my research and talk to the individuals to hear all the other stories that couldn’t have been told in the two NFL Films documentaries done by Steve Sabol.

How often do you write?

Weekly for various reasons, but I like to write when I feel inspired. It’s inspirational to let your words flow onto the paper. The invisible thoughts and ideas get to be visible once written.

How long have you been writing?

For about 5 years and this book for the past 2.

What, according to you, is the hardest thing about writing?

Being able to put all the chapters and connect the story together and the editing and revising process. You, as a writer, always feel the constant need to go back and change an entire sentence or add a new one, or go as small as change a simple word to try and make it better.

Have you ever experienced writer’s block? If so, how long does it usually last?

We all do I think, and usually I refrain from trying to write. Just understanding when to write and when not to write is crucial.

Any tips you would like to share to overcome it?

Just live life and be patient. It will come back, but if you forcing it, it becomes unnatural and therefore something not meant to be and you might get to be more frustrated than creative.

Describe your writing process. Do you have a routine?

I just write when I feel the passion and the thoughts are coming to me. This book required a lot of interviews and research, so it was different than your typical fiction where everything is made up but inspired by events.

Do you read much, and if so, who are your favorite authors?

Yes, lately venturing more into poetry due to the fact that my wife is a writer and reads a lot.  She owns an impressive collection of books, but I would say names such as Ocean Vuong, and others are pioneers of modern writing, and they too, were faced with the dilemma that English wasn’t their native language.

What is the most important thing about a book in your opinion?

Synopsis, cover art, and title because that’s what catches the readers attention first and foremost.

Any advice you would like to give to aspiring writers or authors looking to self-publish?

Just write, write, write nonstop and just do it! Because a lot of writers write the same book over and over just with different details or names, or words, yet that piece never gets to see the daylight, so just write and trust yourself.

What is the most rewarding thing about printing your book?

Actually being able to physically hold the copy is the most gratifying thing one can imagine.
