Important Updates Regarding COVID-19, UPS, & Paper Shortages

A Note on Paper Shortages:

A message to our community,

The United States is currently experiencing a paper shortage that impacts the entire printing industry. At this time, 48 Hour Books is still processing orders and meeting all of our production deadlines.

So, what does the paper shortage mean for you? In most cases, nothing.

However, in some cases you may notice that the range of variation that is always present in a printed product is a little wider than usual.

Color: You may notice slight color differences in your paper stock— there are around 200,000 variations in shades of white, ranging from blue-white to red-white. The brightness of our white paper will always be 94 (it will reflect 94% of the light that hits the page), but the shade may vary a little more than it has in the past. This color difference may be obvious to you when you’re comparing one book order with another, but will never be noticeable to your readers who are only viewing one book at a time.

Thickness/weight: We are seeing more of a variation in thickness of paper than we have in the past. This may mean, for example, that a 300-page book you ordered in 2018 is a little thicker or a little thinner on your re-order this year, even if all of the pages are there and the paper stock is the same. We are doing our best to prevent noticeable variations within single orders, but ask for patience and understanding that these variations can happen. Our paper suppliers have notified us there is not much that can be done to prevent it at this time, but we continue to hold them to the highest standard so that we can provide the best possible final products to you.

Again, these types of variations have always been and will always be present in printed materials provided by any company - not just 48 Hour Books. The difference this year, largely due to the pandemic, is that the range of what we consider an “acceptable” variation is slightly wider.

Lastly, some materials may be out of stock. We will do our best to keep the website up-to-date with these materials. At this time, we do not foresee any issues keeping our most popular stock choices available.

Currently, the items that are out of stock are:
  • Snow White Pearl Linen Cloth Cover (discontinued)
  • 70# White Offset Paper (temporarily out of stock)

Please contact us at any time if you have questions or concerns and we’ll be happy to help!

Thank you for your continued loyalty,
Your friends at 48 Hour Books
