Breakfast with Friends

By Becky Broberg
Becky Broberg is the owner/innkeeper and chef of the Blue Goose Inn Bed and Breakfast in Coupeville Washington, located on beautiful Whidbey Island. Becky is a self-taught cook who learned many skills and techniques from her mother, who is also a great cook. Becky is a life-long learner and has taken many cooking courses from trained chefs and has taught cooking classes to women’s groups through her church. She loves gardening and uses her home grown fruits and vegetables as much as possible in her cooking.
This book is a collection of our favorite recipes at the Blue Goose Inn. In preparing our daily breakfast for guests, we utilize the best fresh, local, seasonal produce to create an amazing experience. We highlight the local farms from around Ebey’s prairie where much of it is grown.
Nearly all the condiments found on our tables including ketchup, maple-butter, cinnamon syrup, peanut butter-syrup, hazelnut butter and various sauces are made fresh from recipes in this book. We make several kinds of granola included in this book that are often served as a starter or as a crunchy topping for other foods.
Berry season on Whidbey Island is a great highlight of the summer months. The fresh local berries will be a feature of our breakfasts throughout the summer months. These fresh berries are the star of the many fruit salads, sauces, syrups and topping recipes that go on our delicious breakfasts.
We also get great local cherries, apricots, pears and apples throughout the summer. In fall the apples are plentiful and as winter looms closer we turn to wonderful squash varieties and pumpkins grown in this area. Our breakfasts change naturally with the seasons and this book includes some from the full cycle.
