Summary
Welcome to 48 Hour Books. We have several papers available for the inside pages of your book. We’ve divided them into offset paper and coated paper.
Under offset paper, you have the choice of either bright white or cream. Bright white offset is our standard book paper; It’s a smooth, un-coated sheet, available in 60#, 70#, or 80#. Cream offset is also a smooth, un-coated sheet, but in a cream color, which adds a little richness to your book. It’ s available in 60# or 70#.
Under coated paper, you have the choice of either Silk Text or Gloss Text. Silk Text has a smooth, beautiful, silk finish, sometimes called matte or satin. It’s also been described as a low gloss. Full-color photos look great on Silk Text, without the glare that you’ll get with Gloss Text. It’s available in 80# or 100#, and we also offer Gloss Text in 80# or 100#. For decades, Gloss Text was the standard for full-color printing, and while it’s still looks great, many authors today are switching to Silk Text.
The ppi number that’s listed below each paper choice stands for pages per inch. Our standard 60# is 440 ppi. So, a 440-page book would be about an inch thick. A 220-page book would be about a half-inch thick. The lower the ppi, the thicker the paper is.
This fiction paperback book was printed with our standard 60# White Offset paper. If you are printing a standard chapter book, containing mostly text, this is the option most of our customers choose.
This journal, bound with our plastic spiral coil, was printed with 70# White Offset paper. If you are printing a book that people will be writing in, you’ll need an un-coated paper with added thickness. Our 70# and 80# Offset paper is perfect for workbooks, journals, planners, and coloring books.
This paperback children’s book was printed with 100# Gloss Text paper. Our Gloss Text paper, available in 80# or 100#, is recommended for children’s books, art books, photography books, or any book that is full-color with minimal text.
This hardcover photography book was printed with 100# Silk Text paper. As we went over earlier, more and more authors are choosing Silk Text to best display their art, illustrations, and photography. We recommend Silk Text paper for books with a combination of photos and illustrations that may also include a fair amount of text. Like our Gloss Text paper, our 80# and 100# Silk Text paper is also a great choice for children’s books, photography books, art books, and more.

Are you not sure how to make a nice-looking cover? With our create-a-cover design service, you can have a beautiful, professionally designed book cover for just $100! Simply choose one of our templates and have our professional graphic artists customize it using your text and images.
Here’s how it works:
During the ordering process, after selecting the main specs of your book, you’ll come to a section titled, “Cover Design”. Click on the box that says “Yes – Economy Create-a-cover” so it is highlighted. Then, click “Next.”
In Step 1 you’ll be asked to choose a cover template. Use the arrow to scroll through the front cover designs and click or tap to highlight the one you’d like.
Please keep in mind that these are just samples. We’ll use the same basic layout and fonts as these samples, but you will provide us with your own images and content, which may fit slightly differently.
In Step 2, scroll to select a back cover design. By default, we’ll select the back cover that best matches your selected front cover, but you can choose another if you’d like. Our design team will make sure the design is cohesive from front to back no matter which combination you choose.
In Step 3, you’ll see a mockup of your selected cover design. Use the color picker tool to select 2 colors you’d like us to use. Choose a primary color first, then tap the lower square box and choose a secondary color. Be sure your two colors are not too similar, or it may make your text difficult to read. If you’re not sure -- or if you have a specific color in mind -- choose the closest match, then let us know your preferred color in the “comments” section of your order. Our graphic design team is happy to tweak the selected colors or make suggestions.
Step 4: Once you’re happy with the basic design and colors, click “Next”. You will upload any images you'd like us to use, along with a Word document with the rest of your cover content after submitting your order.
Proceed with placing your order, and let our team handle the rest! We’ll always send you a free PDF proof to review and approve before we begin printing. You can ask us to make one free set of revisions to your cover design, or even opt to review a fully printed and bound version of your book to double check colors or image quality before we print your full order.
If you’d like to review the cover design templates before placing an order, you can find them by going to Book Design > Covers > Custom Cover Design.
As always, if you have questions, feel free to contact us. We’re here to help!

Here are some basic rules of thumb for numbering your own pages. Your Title should be the first page of the document, on the right. Your Copyright information should be on the second page, on the left. If you have them, your Dedication, foreword, and/or introduction should all be on right-hand pages. Your Chapters should all start on a right hand page. And all odd-numbered pages of your book should be on the right.
